Blaze of Glory

Tonight, I will be watching the one day international between India and England with great interest and with mixed emotions. Today is the last time that Rahul Dravid will take the field in “blues”. And, it will indeed be a cocktail of emotions – happiness that he could retire from the one day arena on his own terms; sadness that there will not be another opportunity to watch him in a limited over setting; anger that we have been deprived of watching this class act for the last 4 years due to foolish selection choices; disappointment at the way a legend has been treated in the ODI scheme of things. Nostalgia has crept in and I feel that this is a good time to pen my thoughts as a tribute to Rahul Dravid.

Going Around

Kiran was upset with Kaustubh. After all, it had been years since they had embarked upon their relationship and Kaustubh had done little to further it other than changing his status on Facebook to “It’s complicated”. Like that was going to make much of a difference. Granted, he came from a very orthodox family but how much longer could he avoid telling to his parents. Kiran was ready to forsake everyone in the world to be with Kaustubh but somehow it seemed that the same commitment was missing from the other side.

Inflation - An assessment of the RBI’s actions

Background:

The WPI Inflation was at 3.22% at the start of October 2007 which was well within the range of 4-5% that the RBI wanted to maintain. However, there was a growth in the broad money (M3) by 22.4% year-on-year. The RBI had started increasing the CRR rate in order to absorb the keep the M3 growth at levels that was acceptable for them (17-18%). From December 2006 till October 2007, the RBI had already increased the CRR by a total of 150 basis points from 5% to 6.5%

4 Colleges Meet – yet another perspective

Having heard from our senior batches on the rivalry between IIMC and XLRI, I waited in anticipation for the 4 college meet that was to be held. I had seen videos on the welcome that was dished out to each other. “Well, this falls right in my alley” I thought since I had spent a considerable amount of time over the years honing my skills in refining my dictionary of the “doosra” variety. Here was a noble cause that would let me use my skills to the fullest.

Life of a Backbencher

After all these years of back-to-back meetings and conference calls, reaching a place on the nick of time is something that I’ve made into a fine art. Continuing with the same tradition, I reached my classroom at 10.15 in the morning only to find that all the prime seats have been taken up and that the only ones left are in the back of the class. That started my journey as a back bencher.

Back to exams!!!

A one year MBA is like a treadmill with its speed turned to maximum and having its stop button jammed. You have to keep running in the hope that someone manages to get the stop button to work. In an odd kind of way, that’s what makes the one year MBA interesting too and got us all here together.

Off the beaten track

Well, I formally joined the ranks of the unemployed on April 1st (nice choice of date – folks at office thought that it was an “April Fool” prank). After spending my first 15 days of unemployment doing nothing but lazing around, I started on my journey to Kolkata in mid-April. It was quite late in the night by the time I reached Joka – thanks to the long queues at the Howrah taxi stand.
